RANDALL, Michael DAVID April 7, 1948 – August 12, 2011 It is with great sadness that the family of David announces his passing after a brief, but courageous battle with cancer. David, known for his dry sense of humour and outstanding compassionate character, grew up in Liverpool, NS, the fourth of nine children and second son in a family of seven sisters. It was a household dominated with female presence. Undaunted, he to rose to the occasion and blazed the trail for the girls in every direction imaginable. David believed in doing things "his way". He developed a keen interest in sports from an early age encompassing baseball (his Blessed Boston Red Sox), football (his Huskies family), golf and hockey. He met his wife, Brenda Gordon, at Saint Mary’s University. They had one daughter, Lindsay Rae. Her arrival made his life complete and to David, Lindsay was his crowning achievement, proven to all throughout the years. David was the ultimate father!
David was employed with Canada Post for 31 years, retiring in 2006. Retirement meant more time for family, friends, the coffee club, sports, and winter trips to Florida with the guys and trips to Calgary to visit his western family. For many decades David was a dedicated supporter of SMU and most recently was General Manager of the Saint Mary’s Huskies football team. He was a father figure to many an athlete and was always at his best when helping others. Known as “Dave” to many, he made countless lasting friendships through the medium of sports. David had an army of loyal friends because he was a good and loyal friend himself. He was well known in the community for his organizational skills for charity events and was involved with many golf classics, silent auctions and various other events.
David is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Brenda, daughter Lindsay, son-in-law Jeremy Delorey, seven sisters: Eleanor (Don) Brucks, Calgary, Catherine, Halifax, Marion (Peter) Croft, Digby, Lorraine, Halifax, Dorothy Clayre (Gary) Charlton, Halifax, Patricia, Calgary, Suzanne Goodwin, Calgary, sister in law Karen (Phil) Cole, Truro, sister-in-law Karla (Kirby) Thompson, Truro and many nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives too numerous to mention, as well as his buddy, Fella. All will miss his larger than life presence in their lives. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents, his parents, Jack and Marion Randall of Halifax, his brother John of Liverpool, and his brother-in-law and friend Allan Goodwin of Calgary, father and mother-in-law Ralph and Anne Gordon and brother-in-law Brian Gordon all of Truro.
David’s family would like to acknowledge Dr. Giacamantonio and the staff of 9A at the VG for their compassionate care and kindness.
