December 22, 1948 – September 26 2014
Never one to call attention to himself Mike died suddenly on Friday September 26, 2014 with his dear friend Ruth at his side .Mike grew up surrounded by women and learned early on how to fly under the radar. Affectionately referred to as “Secret Agent Man” by some of his younger nieces and nephews, Mike was a reserved and loving son, brother, step-father, uncle, great uncle as well as a stalwart friend. Mike was predeceased by his father and mother Phil and Kay Connell and his brothers-in-law, Doug Raper and David Ablett. Mike leaves behind to mourn his death and celebrate his life his sisters Kathy (Ablett, Richard), Colleen (Ablett) Susan (Witiuk, Jim),
Anne (Yatkowsky, Larry), Mary (Raper) Ellen Connell (Peter Johnson), Chad Caldwell who he loved like a son, Ruth, Kirk and the other dear friends who made up his Halifax family (you know who you are.)
Mike moved to Halifax to attend Saint Mary’s University and he loved the town and the people so much that he made it his home for the rest of his life. In 1984 he became the “Founding Father” of Advanced Screen Printing Limited. He took great pride and joy in his work and his work family until his retirement.
Mike was the proud uncle to 20 nieces and nephews and great uncle to 24 and he enjoyed getting to know many of them a bit better during his increasingly frequent trips to Ontario in recent years. Mike’s death leaves a huge hole in our family and in our hearts. Please join us to celebrate Mike’s life on Oct 9 2014 at 11 a.m. at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street Halifax .
