Mary V Murphy

MURPHY, Mary Virginia (Verge) – 91, of Halifax passed away August 1st, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Born in Sober Island, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Percival and Anastasia (Wessel) Verge and is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mary spent her life giving to others. She was an expert in creating beautiful needlepoint pieces until her eyesight started failing. She worked at the hosiery counter at Simpsons (The Bay) for more than 25 years and enjoyed the friendships and work camaraderie during those wonderful years. She was an awesome cook and great baker. Mary was a much-loved mother to Margaret Tremblay, Janet and Dale (Michael) Caines, Atlanta, GA, and beloved grandmother to Terri (Drysdale) Vernon, Middleton, N.S., James Drysdale (Catherine), Erika Carroll (Dennis), Ottawa, Ont., Nathaniel Caines (Kathryn) Atlanta, GA, great-grandmother to Sarah Vernon, Kentville, N.S. Mary is predeceased by her husband Harry Murphy, sisters Marjorie Joudrey, Jessie Shupe, Bertha Young, and brothers Austin, Watson, Simeon and Joseph. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, (902) 455-0531 on Wednesday, August 3rd from 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church, North Street on Thursday, August 4th at 11:30 a.m., Father Roberto Donato officiating.
