Born on April 19, 1937 in Hadleyville, Nova Scotia, to J. Edward Carter and Mary Alexandra (Chisholm) of Hadleyville, Nova Scotia, Irene spent her formative and adult years in Halifax. Graduating from St Patrick's high school and Halifax Regional Vocational School in Halifax, Irene would go on to work for Household Finance Halifax office, and Montague and Co. Realty.
Irene is survived by son Alan (Kyla), grandchildren Zachary and Maren, sisters Claire Muise (Ray), Elizabeth Stadel (Stan), and Ruth Anderson; brother Robert Carter (Donna); several nephews and nieces. Along with her parents, Irene was predeceased by husband Wilson, brothers Joseph, David, Theodore, Archibald, and stepmother Viola Carter (nee Scott).
Irene will be remembered for her love of English comedy TV, the NY Times crossword puzzles and her kindness to animals. Her home was always open to family and friends alike. A ready meal followed by apple pie was always available along with good conversation. In later years she enjoyed going to the pool with friends and keeping up with her grandchildren.
