Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 67 years, Theodore (Ted) W. Smith, her son John T., her parents Roderick and May (Spears) and her sisters Nettie Weir and Jane Jack, and brothers Bertie, John, Daniel, Hoise, Lockie and Bruce.
She is survived by her children Amy (Robert Hill, Mississauga), Carole (Charlie Macdonald, Halifax), Judy (Robert Thibeau, Halifax), Linda (Howard Archibald, Irish Mountain, NS), Donnie, Eganville, ON (Michelle) and daughter-in-law Karen White Smith, Halifax, and the great joy of her life, her grandchildren, Terri and Katherine Hill, Mississauga, Kate and Patrick Macdonald, Halifax, Sean Smith, Halifax, Ryan Smith, Toronto and Courtney Smith, Middle Musquodoboit. Also, she is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Ruby Weir.
Mom received her education in a one room schoolhouse in Stillwater, Guysborough County and as a young woman moved to Halifax to work. She was a devoted mother and grandmother with a great sense of humour. She was a member of the UCW of St. John’s United and the last surviving member of the Sunshine Unit. Mom and Dad loved to play cards and spent many evenings enjoying games of crib. She was a wonderful cook and her family will always remember her spectacular decorated cakes.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Parkstone Enhanced Care and especially those who cared for Mom on Seton Way.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 pm in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax where Celebration of Life will also be held on Saturday, April 6th, at 11 am followed by a reception.
