Martha Maria MacLellan of Halifax passed away in hospital on January 24, 2014, following a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Springhill, she was the daughter of Chrisoula and the late Costadinos Vlahos. She graduated with a B.Sc. Nursing from Dalhousie in 1982, and worked as a critical care and emergency nurse in Halifax and Vancouver. Never shying away from a challenge, Martha’s work ethic made her successful at everything to which she set her mind. For the last 27 years, Martha was employed at Lawtons Drugs Head Office as Home Health Care Coordinator. She loved her job, especially meeting and assisting people. Friendly and full of life, she made everyone comfortable. She enjoyed travel, skiing, entertaining, a good bargain, and spending time with her many friends, family members, and beloved dog Ouzo.
She is survived by husband Brian; daughter Aleka; son Niko; sister Antonia Pronk, Halifax, and twin sister, Georgia Orrell (Liam), Sydney; cousins Bertha Mendrinos (George), London, Kathy Bezanson (Ric), Halifax, and Nicollette Demetre (John), Vancouver; and nieces and nephews, with each of whom she had a special bond. She was predeceased by brother William (Helen), Vancouver and grandmother Martha Apostolakos, Anavriti.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8pm Monday, January 27, at Snow’s Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, with funeral service at 11am Tuesday, January 28 at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church, Purcell’s Cove Rd.
