Marjorie Adele Hallett passed away on October 18, 2019 at the age of 91. Born on February 29, 1928 to Hayward and Mary Archibald, Marj grew up in Truro N.S. where she was involved in every aspect of school life, concentrating on the social and athletic activities.
Following her studies at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, she moved to Halifax as a laboratory technician at Camp Hill Hospital, and met Doane Hallett, her husband and loving partner of 63 years. Together they lived life to the fullest and raised a close-knit family who loved spending time together.
Marj was an incredibly giving, kind and generous person and everyone who knew her loved her. There was always a casserole for a friend in need. Over the years she volunteered for numerous organizations including the VON, The Helpline, IWK and St. Vincent’s Guest House. She also delivered communion to shut-ins and those in the hospital. But the work she enjoyed the most was organizing the Family Mass at Canadian Martyrs Parish.
The impact that she had on her community, is a great source of pride to her family. Her door was always open and her house was always full. It was a drop in centre, where everyone was welcomed, looked after, and made to feel safe.
To everyone who knew her, Marj was one of life’s bright sparks. She brought fun, laughter and positivity with her everywhere she went. She had an incredible ability to laugh at herself. Her enthusiasm for a good time and a bit of competition was always evident whether she was playing golf, tennis, bridge, curling, skiing, skating or fly fishing.
Always guided by her deep faith in God, Marj was not phased by anything that came her way and handled every challenge of her life with a quiet, stoic grace. Nothing was ever a problem or a worry. An inspiration to us all, the world would be a happier, kinder place if we were all just a little bit more like Marj.
Marj was predeceased by daughter Cynthia Jane (Roger LaRocque) Hallett, her brothers Allison, Foster, Wallace and Ronnie and sisters Muriel, Katherine, Mary and Eunice. She is survived by her loving husband Doane, her proud children Joseph Edward Forbes (Gillian Kempster) Hallett, Helen (Bryce Kiberd) Hallett and Mary (Robert) Shakespeare and her grandchildren Jonathan, Kathryn, Olivia, Isabel and James.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Stender for the care and attention he gave Marj and to her personal caregivers, over the last months, and in particular Fara Mohammadi who was very special.
