It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucy Gramigna. Lucy passed away peacefully at her home with her family and pets at her side on Thursday April 11, 2024 in her 56th year. She fought a short but courageous battle with Lewy Body dementia and was brave until her last breath.
Beloved daughter of the late Antero and Gilda Paulino. Loving mother of Stephanie (Daniel Veniot) and adoring wife of Todd Gramigna. Survived by other family members in Canada, the United States, Portugal, and Mexico.
Lucy was born in the Azores and moved to Toronto, Ontario at a young age. She lived in Hamilton, Ontario for 34 years before moving to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Here in Halifax, she worked for the Nova Scotia Provincial Housing Authority (NSPHA).
She will be remembered by many for her caring ‘motherly’ demeanor. She always wanted to help others and put a smile on people’s faces. Lucy was exceptionally talented and found joy in paper tole, ceramics, crochet/knitting, baking, and more.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of 7.4 at the Halifax Infirmary and to the Palliative Care doctor David Dupere and palliative care nurse Claire Belliveau.
A favourite Winnie-the-Pooh quote of Lucy’s: “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart I’ll stay there forever.” Hug your mother and/or your daughter a little closer the next time you are with them because there truly is nothing that compares to a mother’s love.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation in Lucy’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
Everyone is welcome to attend a funeral mass at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6903 Mumford Road that will be held on Friday April 19th, 2024 at 5 p.m.
