Lloyd was born in Glace Bay on May 2, 1947 and was raised in Sydney, Cape Breton. He was the son of the late Alexander 'Sandy' and Bernice MacKenzie. He worked at the Halifax Shipyards, in the accounting department holding various positions, for over 40 years and also served on the Residential Tenancy Board for a number of years. Lloyd was a longtime member of the Fairview Masonic Lodge #126 and was a Past Master, a past Grand Lodge Officer, and current secretary of the lodge. He was an active member of his community, serving on the Centennial Arena Rink Board and volunteered at the Halifax West Ecumenical Food Bank. He was a devoted, long time active member of Fairview United Church, where he served on various committees. Lloyd loved to travel, enjoyed country and gospel music, playing cards with friends, and above all, spending time with family, whom he adored.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marilyn (Ross); daughter, Allison (Patrick Power); granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Brittany; brother, Howard; father and mother-in-law, Garfield and Peggy Ross, Sydney; sisters-in-law, Myrna and Linda Ross, Sydney; brother-in-law, Allie (Debbie) Ross and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., with visitation Friday, March 21st from 2-4 and 7:30-9 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. A service celebrating Lloyd’s life will be held at Fairview United Church, 3524 Dutch Village Rd. on Saturday, March 22nd at 11 a.m., with Rev. Heather Fraser and Rev. Michael Koslowski officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Freemason’s Hall, 165 Coronation Ave., Halifax.
Donations in Lloyd’s memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, The Heart and Stroke Association, or a charity of ones choice.
