Les was born in Centre Village, Westmorland Co., NB, eldest son of the late John William Kay, and Susie Frances (Smith) Kay. The loving husband of Rita Girouard for sixty-two years. Les and Rita met in Bathurst, NB, when they were both employed at Lounsburys, and moved to Halifax in 1956 when Les joined then Scotia Chev. & Olds. He also worked for Bob McDonald's GM dealership; and was still working for O'Regan's Chev. and Olds when he died. He loved his work in the car business. His leisure time was spent golfing, curling, working in the garden, and walking his little pet, Casper.
He is survived by his wife, Rita, sister, Marian Lewis. son, Stephen (Nancy), daughters: Joanne, Lynn (John) Hilchey, Marian (Kevin) Hearns. His ten grandchildren: Jeremy (Tara), Matthew, Emily, Stephen, Stanley, Daniel, Jacob, Erin, Dylan and Allison. Great grandchildren River and Meadow. Special family friend, Joey. He is predeceased by brother, Jack and niece, Heather. Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral Mass will take place at Saint John the Baptist Church, 27 Purcell's Cove Rd., Halifax on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be celebrated by Father Paul Morris.
The family wishes to thank the nursing staff in the Emergency Department and on 6.1 at the QE11. The consideration and compassion for Les as well as his family is greatly appreciated; and, the love and assistance given will never be forgotten. Family flowers only.
