Born in Halifax, she was the oldest daughter of the late Alphonsine and Joseph MacGillivray.
Always the supreme hostess, impeccably coiffed, Mom’s love of entertaining both for family and friends was one of her greatest joys. Even with her large family she still found the time to be a Girl Guide leader and to hold positions with the CWL and Rockingham Yacht club for many years. Mom instilled her profound kindness and generosity in all of us. Forever devoted to her faith, she let that be her guide in life.
She is survived by her daughters, Linda Wade (Bert), Cathy Rafuse, Colleen Kerekes (Peter), Sandra (Bill); sons, Stephen (Sherri) and Bernard (Terri); sister, Anne Smith (James); grandsons, William and Daniel Wade, Derek Kerekes, Andre Gaudet; granddaughters, Karen Wade, Angela Rafuse, Stephanie Norman, Samantha Munroe, Emma Brown, Jessica Carter; 10 great grand-children and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mom was predeceased by her brothers, Angus “Gus”, Tony, Frank and John; former husband, Gordon Brown; son-in-law, Bert Wade and grandson, Timothy Rafuse.
A longtime resident of Melville Lodge she was considered one of the “lucky ones”, having her 6 children all living locally, therefore she got out often; in essence, however, we were the lucky ones.
A visitation from 6-8 pm Wednesday, January 30th, with a funeral service at 11 am on Thursday, January 31st, will be held at JA Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. A reception and burial will follow.
The family would like to thank the staff at Melville Lodge for their extraordinary care, especially during Mom’s last week and Snow's Funeral Home for their exceptional direction, in particular Sherri and Lorraine.
