Barton (Fraser) Leona - 1925-2012, formerly of Almon Street Halifax, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in Parkstone Enhanced Care on October 23, 2012 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Besides her parents, Leona was predeceased by husband, Harris B. Barton, son, Harris L. Barton Jr., brothers James and Fred Fraser. Leona is survived by daughters, Myrna Adams, Brampton, ON; Valerie Zaharia (Laurent), Ottawa, ON; Marcia Webb, Roxanne Barton, and Denise Tynes (Bentley) all of Halifax. Grandchildren; Jenaya, Jeffrey, Jason, Elisha, Tamara, Zachary and 9 great grandchildren. She was a long-time dedicated employee of the CN Hotel Industry in Halifax. In her later years, she was employed at Northwood Care from where she retired. She was a member of Cornwallis Street Baptist Church and participated in various activities in the women’s auxiliary. Our mother was an avid lover of music, gardening, collecting numerous recipes, her dog Menace, and most of all, her deep affection for her grandchildren. She so enjoyed telling her many animated stories of her life experiences. She had an undaunting willingness to help her family whenever she could. She will forever be remembered for her quick wit, fiery spirit and her no nonsense attitude. "Nanny B" as she was so affectionately called, will be sorely missed. Visitation will be 6 – 8 pm Sunday October 28, in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Memorial service will be held 11 am Monday October 29, in Cruikshank’s Chapel with Rev. Rhonda Britton and Rev. Lionel Moriah officiating followed by a reception in the Funeral Hall. Interment in Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Sackville. Donations in memory may be made to Cornwallis Street Baptist Church or the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
