Born in Montreal, PQ, he was the son of John and Pat McDonald (deceased). Survived by his brothers Craig (Tracy) and Todd (Ashley), and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Kevin was an avid supporter of the Catholic Church and the Right to Life Movement as well as an advocate for the homeless and volunteer for organizations that offered them support. He had a soft spot for people on the street, and seemed to know not just their names, but their stories. He helped so many people in a quiet, almost anonymous manner because it was the right thing to do. He was the kind of guy that visited an elderly relative in a nursing home – not occasionally, but weekly. The kind of guy that wore the same ratty old sweatshirt, but regifted Christmas presents to those that needed them more. He was the kind of guy that wanted what he already had.
Kevin earned four university degrees, spoke Japanese, and had a successful career as a teacher before health issues began to diminish his abilities. He handled them with grace, never complained, and wouldn’t burden others with his troubles. His congenital mental health issues robbed him of the light he deserved and the world of his genius.
His humour, wit, and intellect were incomparable. He could beat an entire faculty at a game of Trivial Pursuit, was a voracious reader and student of history, and surely would have set records on Jeopardy had he ever agreed to take the damn test to get on the show. He could have written for Letterman or Leno, 60 Minutes or 22 Minutes – the guy was funny smart.
He adored his nieces, Makayla and Winnie, who showed him an unconditional love for which he was eternally grateful. His family will miss him immensely.
