POTTIE, Rev. Kenneth William — 71, of Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rev. Kenneth William Pottie at Parkstone Enhanced Care, after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease. It is also with a deep sense of gratitude that we remember his life of service to God's people. Father Ken grew up in Halifax and attended St. Mary's Boys School, St. Patrick's High School, St. Mary's University, Bishop Burke House and Holy Heart Seminary. He also studied at St. Peter's Seminary in London, Ont. He was ordained in 1970 by Archbishop James Hayes. Father Ken served as a priest for 32 years in the Archdiocese of Thunder Bay where he had been assigned to the parishes of St. Peter, St Patrick, St. Elizabeth, Our Lady of Loretto, as well as St. Joseph in Dryden, Immaculate Conception, in Ignace, St. Martin of Tours in Terrace Bay and St. Hilary's in Redrock. He was instrumental in establishing the Catholic Action Store in Thunder Bay. Father Ken was known for his great generosity and joyful spirit and his love of music. He was predeceased by his father, Maxime; mother, Denathilde (Chiasson); sister, Shirley; brothers, Wilfred (Jackie) and Joseph (Kaye). He is survived by his sisters, Marie (Nick Walsh, deceased), Sister Anna; brothers, Tom (Mary), Wayne (Jean), Halifax; Father Charles, Winnipeg and sisters-in-law, Jackie and Kaye, Halifax, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. today, from 1:30-5 p.m. An Evening Prayer Vigil will take place in St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica later on today at 7:30 p.m. Visitation to follow until 10 p.m. Funeral mass will be held in St. Mary's Cathedral Basilica on Tuesday, February 23, at 10 a.m. Interment and committal will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can by made to Hope Cottage, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, or to a charity of your choice.
