Kathleen Currie

Born in Glace Bay in 1925 she was the daughter of the late Hon. Lauchlin Daniel Currie and Margaret Jane (Curry) Currie.

A librarian by profession, Kathleen, after graduating from St. Francis Xavier University and McGill University, began her career at the Brooklyn Public Library New York, as a children's librarian. She returned to Halifax in 1950 to take the position as the first Supervisor of the children's department in the new Halifax Memorial Library. She later became Acquisitions Librarian and Special Collections Librarian at Mount Saint Vincent University.

Kathleen had a wide and varied interest in community activities. She was an enthusiastic member of many organizations such as the Canadian Club, The Scots, of which she was a Honorary Life Director and the Missions to Seamen. She supported numerous charities and worthy causes.

With a strong interest in music Kathleen was a member of many chorale groups in Halifax including the Armdale Chorus, the Bluenose Belles, the Bethany Chorale and a number of church choirs. For three years begin-ning in 1960, Kathleen had a national television show on CBC. She was also appointed by the Canadian Library Association as the children’s librarian at Expo ’67.

Kathleen was predeceased by her sister Genevieve. She is survived by her sister Alice (Reid) Waterloo Ont, and brothers John Hugh (Rob-erta)Calgary and Emmet (Bernadette) Halifax as well as many nieces and nephews.

No visitation. Funeral service will take place Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 11:00 am in JA Snow Funeral Home Chapel (339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax) with reception to follow.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Valerie Lewis for her many years of caring for Kathleen. We also thank the staff of Melville Lodge for their care and compassion.
