TOMES, June D. – It is with great sadness that the family of June Tomes (Harrison) announce her passing on April 4, 2012 at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax N.S. Formerly residing on Nightingale Drive in Rockingham for many years, she was the daughter of the late Glynn and Frances (Annetts) Harrison. Born in Sneyd Green, Stoke-on-Trent, England on June 19, 1927 she immigrated to Canada in 1948 to marry the love of her life, Harry Tomes. In her early years in Canada she worked as a stenographer for the Department of National Defense. She volunteered for many years at the IWK Children’s Hospital and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She was a founding member of the Marquis of Rockingham Chapter, I.O.D.E. She was an avid tennis player, and an enthusiastic golfer at the Ashburn Golf Club. She also enjoyed a good game of bridge, line dancing and bowling. She was a fantastic baker and was a skilled knitter. Very much a family person, her life revolved around her dearly loved husband, her daughters and grandchildren. She was a long time adherent of St. Peter’s Anglican Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ladies Altar Guild. She was predeceased by her parents, husband LCol F.H. (Harry) Tomes (1980) and twin daughters in infancy. Survived by daughters Diane Tomes-Low (late Douglas K. Low), Glynnis Jackson (Major Lloyd Jackson), Jacqueline Tomes-Druhan (Kenneth Druhan), granddaughters Nicole Louise Jackson, Victoria Elizabeth Jackson and grandson Harrison Kenneth Druhan; very special sister-in-law Irene Tomes, Ottawa; brother-in-law Ronald Tomes, London, Ontario and cousins in Great Britain. The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Evan Hall, Drummond Hall and Parkstone Enhanced Care for their dedication, compassion and care over the past three years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive (902) 455-0531 on Tuesday, April 10 from 4:30-7:00pm. Funeral will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Dakin Drive on Wednesday, April 11 at 1:30pm. Reception to follow. Interment at St. John’s Cemetery. Family flowers only.
