It is with profound sorrow we announce the peaceful death of our loving daughter Julie Leonie Barbara on October 3, 2015, in the QE11 Hospital. She was born in Halifax on October 2, 1973, to Elizabeth Baker and Fernand Tardif. Besides her parents and brother Darren (Kimberley), Julie is survived by her daughters, Victoria Monaghan (John), Alexandria and Olivia; son, Brandon and their father, Jamie; her grandsons, Lucas and Jacob; niece, Cassidy; nephews, Joseph, Jude and Nathan and her best friend, Careen McNeil; Godparents, Bob and Rita Humphrey. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Patrick and Leonie Tardif and her maternal grandparents, Edwin and Audrey Baker.
Julie always had a zest for the fun things in life and the more challenging, the better. She loved her family dearly and was most happy when they were all together enjoying a meal and spending time as a family. She loved animals, especially the family cat Lilly. Julie loved her books dearly and read as often as possible. When she came home Julie always looked for Mom’s sweets, and was known to hide chocolate for her next visit. She was always there to help a friend in need.
Up until her health failed, she worked for IBEW Local 625 for 15 years until 2010 and the last 8 years of that time was the Administrator/Training Coordinator for the Local Unions Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee. She was an excellent worker who always enjoyed her work and especially liked to help members with their apprentice and training needs. She always looked for the best in people despite of what they did or what others thought. After 2010 she worked part-time for the Atlantic Canada Health Care Coalition Society.
As Julie constantly reminded her children and family; “This too shall pass.” And she would encourage them to dance to the beat of their own drum, just as she always has. Thank you to the staff of both the ICU, 5.2 and 8.1 Neurology at the QE11 Hospital for their excellent care.
Visitation on Thursday, October 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 pm in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Benedict Catholic Church at 10:30 am on Friday, October 9. Reception to follow in the church hall. Family burial at a later date. As she loved children so much, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the IWK Hospital in Julie’s name.
