With great sadness and love, we announce that Judith Lynn Morton passed away peacefully after a very brief illness at the age of 66 years on August 12, 2020. Born March 22, 1954 in Montreal, Quebec, she resided in Halifax, Nova Scotia for the majority of her life.
Attending many schools in the Halifax area, she also attended Netherwood School for Girls and graduated from Miss Murphy’s Business College. She enjoyed swimming, painting, writing 100’s of psalms of poetry, dancing, most genres of music, working with children and above all, spending time with her family. For many years she was an active member of Connections Halifax and worked as a volunteer in the business offices of First Baptist Church and St Matthews United Church in Halifax.
Judy would light up a room with her presence--never passing up an invitation to socialize whether just for a coffee and conversation or an outing to the country or trip with the family. She was always the best accessorized person in the room--she loved makeup, jewelry & colorful scarves--to say the least, she just loved to shop! An avid church goer and spiritual in nature, Judy faced many challenges during her 66 years--facing those challenges head on with great courage, grace and humor--relying on her faith & family to see her through, she inspired us all. We loved her dearly and that love was returned tenfold!
Daughter to the late Dr. Bruce Morton & Shirley (Moore) Morton, she is survived by her immediate family: sister Janet (Morton) White, brothers Bill Morton and David Morton (Susan); nephews: Cameron White (Laura), Ted White, Geoffrey Morton (Danielle); nieces Natalie White, Stephanie Morton (Evan); grandnieces and grandnephew: Stella White, Jessie White and Carter White; and cousins: Anthony Morton (Cynthia) and Sherry Thomson-Morton. She was also predeceased by her uncle Raymond Morton (Jeannie) and her cousin Leigh Morton (Sherry).
The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of both Metro Community Living and Arborstone Enhanced Care for all their support and compassionate care of Judy in her final years and days.
A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Halifax, “Connections Halifax” c/o Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia by calling 902-464-6000 or a charity of your choice.
