He was predeceased by his brother Maurice.
For many years Joe worked for Blunden Construction a job he enjoyed immensely. Joe was proud of his work, he always had a job to do or a problem to solve, yet was never too busy to lend a helping hand to anyone that needed it. In his younger days he spent many weekends canoeing and competing in races across the Maritimes. He was active in Scouts Canada as a Cub Scout leader. After his retirement he continued to work for himself, along with rebuilding the cottage in the valley. He also found time to volunteer for Meals on Wheels each week for several years. Joe had a keen interest in Nova Scotian history. He was a proud descendant of the Foreign Protestants, the first settlers to arrive in Halifax from Germany. Joe was well travelled but it was the back roads of Nova Scotia that were close to his heart, always exploring around the next corner. Most of all Joe was a woodsman and never happier than when he was working on a woodlot somewhere especially with his brother Moe. He was a storyteller, who liked nothing more than to be at The Wildcat his camp in the woods, sitting around the wood stove telling tales from days gone by, often with a little help from Captain Morgan.
For those of us that loved you Joe, you will always be remembered. When the wind blows over the top of the pine trees to the rustle of the leaves underfoot - you’ll be there.
