90 years old. Jack was born May 30, 1933 in Halifax, N.S. We are sad to announce his passing on December 20, 2023. His kindness, easy-going nature, humility and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his nephews Norman, Kevin and Jeffrey Longard, and sister- in- law Shirley Longard. Predeceased by his wife Marilyn (2018), his mother Marjorie, father Thomas, and brother Bill.
Jack worked in the family plumbing business before embarking on a career with Sears Roebuck & Co. in the early ‘70s. Jack had a satisfying career with Sears, beginning in warehouse fulfilment and inventory control, and ultimately moving into Information Technology. After he retired as an IT department manager, he was invited back for several years of contract work, which he enjoyed.
Jack was an avid golfer, and his golfing buddies were among the many good friendships that developed through the years. One of those caring co-workers introduced Jack to Marilyn Sanford who worked at “sister company” Simpsons. Marilyn and Jack were meant for each other, and in 1975 they got married and bought a home together. They loved to explore Nova Scotia, and thoroughly enjoyed camping at Keji and other parks, going on picnics, and watching birds and wildlife. A delightful cat named “Scrap” became part of their family for many years.
Jack was a man of faith, and he regularly attended Sheffield Baptist Church, where he contributed to the music with his singing, guitar and harmonica (sometimes all on the same song!) Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 6 to 8 PM at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax N.S. Funeral service and reception will be Friday December 29, 11 AM at Sheffield Baptist Church, 80 Lincoln Cross Dr., Halifax, N.S. Private family interment to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sheffield Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
