John Balfour Platt

It is with great sadness we announce that John Balfour Platt, age 96, passed away peacefully August 11, 2024 at the Halifax Infirmary. We thank the medical and health care professionals at the hospital for providing comfort in his final days.

John was born in Toronto, but at the age of 2 moved to southern Manitoba with his parents and sister. He was raised on a farm in the beautiful Pembina valley, and it is to this valley that he will return to be buried close to his late parents John and Mary Platt (née Balfour), and late sister Frances Ballan (née Platt).

As per his wishes, John will be cremated and interred with the remains of his loving wife of 66 years, Viola, who predeceased him by two years. A private celebration with family and close friends will be held at a later date.

John leaves behind his loving daughters Shelley and Brenda, sons-in-law Mark and Steve, grandchildren John and Elizabeth, and nieces Leslie, Marni, Lori and Terri. John also leaves behind countless relatives, friends and neighbours from the years he lived in Ontario, Manitoba, Nova Scotia and British Columbia.
