John was born on December 18,1936 in Gytheio, Greece where he grew up with his parents, Fotis and Kalliopi, and alongside his cherished brothers, Takis, George, and Kosta. In March of 1964, he departed his beloved Greece to start a new life and family with his bride Angeliki (Bessie) in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but he always thought of his homeland and returned any chance he could.
John had a tenured career working in the restaurant industry as a well-regarded cook at the Cameo Restaurant, Spartan Restaurant, and the Graduate Bar & Grill, to name a few.
John is remembered as a warm and kind man who always had a smile on his face. If you entered St. George's Greek Orthodox Church on a Sunday morning, you would have heard his beautiful voice chanting throughout the service.
His many other passions included spending many hours in his backyard gardening, playing the harmonica, and watching soccer. Most of all, he loved spending many smiles and laughs with his friends and family.
John always said his family was most important to him. He had such love and pride for his children and grandchildren and the feelings were mutual.
He is survived by his devoted wife Bessie, as well as his three children: Kalliopi (Jay) Fotis (Cheryl), Patricia (John), and 5 grandchildren: Matthew, Jonathon, Angela Rose, Angela Catherine, and Alex.
We cannot thank enough the wonderful doctors and nursing staff at the QEII Hospital for showing so much care and compassion to John and his family.
