He will be greatly missed by loving wife, Deborah Findlay. He is survived by sister, Kathleen Child (Ron); brothers, Michael McMullan (Christine) and Jim McMullan (Terrina). All will miss John’s wonderful sense of humor, as well as his sharp intellect and energetic nature.
He studied at Concordia University, Montreal, and then for his Ph. D degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science (L.S.E.), UK. Subsequently, he had a passion for his career as a professor of Criminology. That career took him initially to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Since 1985, he held a position in the Department of Sociology and Criminology, at St. Mary’s University, Halifax.
In 2012, John received the President’s Award for Excellence in Research, and was Professor Emeritus since his retirement. He conducted research into various aspects of criminology with skilled expertise and enthusiasm. John was also known for the challenging courses he taught and his encouraging supervision of many students. His was definitely an active and fulfilling life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA, Dartmouth, NS.
A private funeral and burial will take place.
