Allister was born October 16, 1926 in Westville, a son of the late Capt. William and Laura (Carrigan) Mac Isaac.
Allister was a graduate of St. Dunstan’s University (now UPEI) (B.Sc.) and St. Francis Xavier University (B.Ed., M.Ed.). He was a varsity athlete and was later in life inducted into the UPEI Sports Hall of Fame. His career as an educator spanned several decades where he was well respected by his students and teaching colleagues as principal of East Pictou Rural High School.
Most of all Allister was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who took great interest and pride in his family’s achievements.
He was predeceased by his first wife and the mother of his children, Mary Christine (Mac Arthur), second wife, Ethel (Trainor), and his brother, William.
Allister is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Robert Oxenham), son, John, twin sister, Romaine Mac Isaac, and grandchildren, Sarah, Kaitlyn and Patrick Mac Isaac, Laura Oxenham (Matthew Murphy) and Colin Oxenham. The family would like to express sincere gratitude to Tracy Coleman, Allister’s devoted caregiver.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, February 15 at 11:00am at St. John the Baptist Church, Halifax. Reception to follow in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
