I am John’s younger brother,  It was painful, no to be able to fly over to see John, due to my own health reasons.  It is just as difficult to do anything like this…writing ….but after a good think…I am having a go!
John, would come home on leave, and it was always exciting, he would have been around 17, and I was 6, but he would play with me and my train set , relaying the track, etc.  Then one day he bought me back …a black train, a good one, I loved it and still have it. We have both kept an interest in  trains ….thanks brother.  
As I got older we took an interest in horse racing,  watching it on TV..and yes we did a few bets!  
Moving on many years….after John and Judi had returned to Canada, with Daryl, they had two little girls Karyn and Jenn.  They came over for a holiday,  first time in the UK for the children. So much excitement, our Mum made a ….’Welcome Home Banner’…..to hang outside the house.  While I ….bought a 14 seater mini bus….so that we could all travel together, taking them site seeing all over Devon.  To the beach, and to a holiday park.  I remember my Dad, (Arthur). showing approval of this rash buy, by taking it for an MOT certificate to make sure it was safe. 
It is still so hard to believe, the loss of John.  Even though we lived  so far apart, I am missing him….he was our big brother.  I will remember his generosity  fun and huge laugh. Love Paul.

John my big brother.  My memory is of you…. on your big two wheeler bike, whilst I was still at the trike stage.  I was impressed, and rather in awe, you were five and half years older than me….and was allowed down the Park ..on your own.
We often had lunch under the big apple tree, lots of lovely puddings , not surprisingly they were apple based.  My favourite was apple fritters, David loved baked apples with fruit inside the core.  Your favourite….treacle sponge pudding with custard.  Not an apple insight!  Did you ever manage to climb that tree.  The beach hut was so important to us, every weekend at the beach, I  can still smell the kerosine stove, for 0making our cups of tea.  We made cars in sand  and boats, and a game with tunnels for our tennis ball. timed to see who reached the end first.  Always an ice cream on the way home, you always had chips!    Happy sunny days, our lips tasting of salt from the sea.. Thank you big brother John. I could never forget our lovely childhood.  Rest now., you will be with us always love Suzanne xxx

John  my happy go lucky brother.  So many memories playing “ submarines “ little did we know at that stage, John would become a submariner during  his twelve years in the Royal Navy.   We had fun at our Exmouth beach hut , spending hours with many games played on the beach …and rock pooling at maer rocks, we always put the ‘catch back’!  For the short time you worked  for the railway,  I was so lucky to visit the signal box where you worked, you were proud to share your knowledge and show me the “ workings”  I was so thrilled.   There are so many memories to treasure…….and I will be remembering my big brother.  With love David.

He was not only my dad , he was also my friend and my work buddy years back when I lived in Halifax. I could hear his laughter on the other end of the building and think wow that's dad while I'm smiling. Whenever I would leave to go back to Toronto he would have a tear in his eye. A big man with a bigger heart. We will all miss you so much and I am still always so proud to be your son. Love you so much. 

I remember the first day I met John Ellis.  It was Easter Sunday - April 24, 2011.  I have to admit I was a little intimidated - here was this tall man, deep voice.  However I immediately felt welcome by this kind man, and his family.  John and I soon became close, and I feel that was because we connected over so many things.  He had a youthful curiosity for all things - he liked to understand why things were the way they are, and how things worked.  We both liked to fix things, even if it involved screws and a bunch of tape :)  John was so kind, and he had such a big heart - you always felt welcome in his presence.  He was a problem solver - loved a good problem he could figure out, and there were lots of DIY projects he and I would plan solutions for.  He was always so appreciative of everything I helped him with, and I would always hear the words 'much obliged' for even the smallest little things.  And as I think back over the years I've known John, it was me that was most grateful, for knowing him.  John I thank you for being so kind, and allowing me to be a part of your life and your wonderful family.  Much obliged John Ellis.

So many happy memories of our Exeter city games and trips to Wembley, days I will never forget. To me you were like the older brother I never had. You  will  be missed, especially on match days 

My big brother John, so many happy memories, one in particular for me was excitingly waiting, watching the window to see you walking up the road on leave from your Navel duties. So smart in your Navy uniform,  kit bag on your shoulder and of course, that smile!  Mum’s smile was even bigger! You were home safely to spend some time with us ❤️

Dear Karyn, please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear Dad. I always remember seeing him and your mother at the Alderney Landing Farmers' Market. He will always be with you as close as your shoulder. May your pleasant memories and lovely photos give you peace. May he rest in Peace and rise in Glory.

I car pooled with  John for  many years, and  heard so many  cat stories  l can't  count, will be  missed. 

Had the pleasure of working with John for several years at Canada Post.  I was not only new to Canada Post but was a new supervisor when I met John. He was quite willing to share his postal knowledge and experience with me. John was a great fellow employee and took great pride in his work.

 He certainly will be missed.

So sad to hear of John’s passing. I have many fond memories of him at the registration desk window while we worked together at the Almon street post office. Many nights were spent at his house on the weekends with Daryl, Paul, Glenn , Jason and me listening to music, reading car magazines and watching Much Music power hour. I remember his big laugh, his big smile, his British accent and watching him drink his favourite  beverage of Captain Morgan.  My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rest in Peace.
