Although we always knew he was an angel on earth, he now officially has his wings in Heaven. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Dad, Grampie and brother, John W. Barrett on April 30, 2018 at Parkstone Enhanced Care in his 98th year.
Born February 28, 1921 in Beaver Bank, he was the eldest child of the late George Willoughby & Florence Evelyn (Etter) Barrett. At the time of his passing, he was either one of if not the oldest living Barrett from Beaver Bank.
Dad spent his entire working years in the lumber industry starting out with Barrett’s Lumber Company. He always made time in his busy life for a cribbage game, having had 2 perfect 29 hands in his lifetime and also for his diaries, crosswords and scrap books.
He will be greatly missed by his loving daughters, Marsha Ward, Maxine (Wayne Peters) Haines; grandson, Geoff (Serena) Haines; great-grandchildren, Cohen Anthony, Parker Barrett & Anabelle Lynn, all of Halifax; sisters, Jean (Melvin) Cross; Elizabeth Barrett; Phyllis Gilby; step-children, Calvin (Joyce); David (Louise); very special girl, Brenda Murphy; several step-grandchildren, nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by the love of his life of 50 years, Margaretta (Corbin) in 1996; his parents; brothers, Rex, Byron & Joe; step-daughters, Rae, Pearl & Lois.
Celebration of Life to be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street on May 29th at 2pm. Followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
