We sadly announce the death of our mother and grandmother, Joan Marilyn Kersey, on January 28, 2021 at 90 full years of age. Born in Toronto, Joan attended business school before starting work as a teenager to help her mother Ina pay the bills after her father Douglas passed. Joan later moved to Windsor, to work for IBM in Detroit, and where she met the love of her life, Patrick, the blind date of someone else at a local party.
One year later, Joan and Pat were married and thus began the great life adventure of two people who did everything together. Joan moved to join Pat in Les Iles de la Madeleine, QC, where they lived for a few years and started their family before moving on to Nova Scotia with two boys, settling in Spryfield and having three more children, all boys. She loved her boys unconditionally, even with the occasional curves life threw her way with their antics.
Joan worked at Blunden Construction for years and was a loved member of the neighborhood community, keeping her local friendships alive all her life. On retirement, Joan and Pat moved to the Annapolis Valley, yet another life adventure. Together, they enjoyed winters in Saint Augustine and traveling the country visiting thier growing brood of grandchildren. On Pat's death in 2013, Joan moved back to Halifax, settling in the North End. There she made friends with a great group of folks that met for coffee multiple times per week at Julian's Bakery, exchanging stories and enjoying the best of life. Known for her great smile and wicked sense of humour, Joan will be sorely missed.
Joan is survived by her family, Robert (Mary Lynn, Lauren, Hannah and Liam), Dartmouth, David (Michelle, Jack), Halifax, Bill (Linda, Patrick, Laura and Andrea) Waterloo, Chris (Katie and Riley), Kitchener, and Shawn (Nicole, Julia, Josh and Noah), Tantallon.
Due to Covid travel restrictions, a remembrance service and burial will be at a later date, at a time when everyone can come together and celebrate the life and love of our extraordinary mother and grandmother. A giving person her entire life, donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Joan's honour.
