With grieving hearts, we announce the passing at the Halifax Infirmary, of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.
Jan was the daughter of the late Arnold and Esther (Mountain) Hagman, born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on June 15, 1936. She was predeceased by her sister, Peggy Smith, and brother Doug Hagman; son in-law, Kevin Hunt, and the love of her life of 62 years, Husband, Barry Robinson. She was also predeceased by her fur babies, Brandy, Lacey and Scoobie.
Surviving Jan are her daughters, Cindy (Charlie), Bishop, and Cathie Hunt. Jan’s former son-in law, Gary Bishop. Her sister, Judy Foisy and many nieces and nephews. Jan was a committed and loving grandmother to Janelle Frizzell (Mark), Jared Bishop and Sara Hunt and a loving and proud Great-Grandmother to Kaden Bishop and Grace Frizzell.
Jan was educated in Middleton Nova Scotia attending Middleton RHS where she was involved in student council, glee club, (dance) and the Arts. Following high school, Jan enrolled in the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing until she decided to change her field of studies to align with her love of cosmetology where she worked part-time for many years as a Beautician.
Jan met the love of her life in Greenwood, NS at a baseball game, following a dance where Barry asked for her hand; they were known as the best dance partners! Barry at the time was working in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). They were married on September 10, 1955, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Following was the birth of their two daughters. Barry’s career in the Air Force had led their young family to Arlington, Virginia USA, Whitehorse YT, and then returned to stay in Halifax, NS in 1967.
Jan was a dedicated BMO employee, later joining her husband in early retirement in 1996 after 30 years with BMO. Her career with the bank led her to receive many excellence awards on her workmanship and positive attitude.
Jan and Barry were active members of the Saraguay Club (RYSNS) where they enjoyed all the activities and events for many years with their family and many friends.
In her spare time, Jan enjoyed being entertained at the Casino NS where she was VIP (and MVP) member. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed her VIP status when she was invited with tickets to sky box watching the Moosehead games and other special events held by the Casino.
A true lady, full of grace, kindness, generosity, and compassion; she was devoted to her Roman Catholic Faith and served along with Barry as Eucharistic Minister at St. John the Baptist Church, Purcells Cove Road.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to VON, and to Nancy with Comforting Companions for providing Jan with dedicated care and support.
We the family would like to thank the compassion shown by the Paramedics, and Unit, 7.3 at the Halifax Infirmary, specifically to her very attentive and caring Doctor, Gordon Gubitz, Nurses, Kat, Hannah, Katie, MacKenzie and Aleiaj.
The celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Friday December 30, 2022, 11:00 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Herring Cove Road Halifax, NS. Family burial at a later date at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
“My Dearest Husband, you brought so much joy in our life together. I was so proud to be your wife for over 60 years. You always made me feel so loved; I miss you terribly. Your strong arms, I know are waiting to embrace me when I see you again in our Heavenly Home. Always yours, Jan”.
Jan loved all wildlife and especially her mutual attraction with racoons. Donations can be made to Hope for Wildlife in Jan’s memory.
