James Gordon Williams passed away peacefully in Halifax on May 17, 2022 at the age of 85. Born in Fredericton on August 18, 1936, he was the son of Frederick Henry Williams (d. 1945) and Pauline Nesbitt Hazlett (d. 1975).
He is survived by his devoted wife Marie (Boutilier) Williams of Cape Breton, his loving son Rick (Gaby) of Fredericton, sisters Clythie (Darrell) Staples and Jayne (Roger) McGeehan both of Fredericton, Marion Sklar (England), brother-in-law Greg (Mary) Boutilier (Fall River), sister-in-law Diane (Gary) Brown (Falmouth), grand-daughters Laura and Sarah, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his step-dad, Jack Staples, sister Karren, mother of his niece Jennifer, the daughter he always wanted, and grand-nephew Harrison.
Jim and Marie would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June. The whole family is eternally grateful for Marie as a person and for her care of Jim over the years. She kept him going through countless ailments with a stern finger wag (you can't eat that, hold still for your drops) and their shared sense of humor. Jim retired at age 58 from a long and fulfilling career with DuPont. He then filled his days with volunteer work, receiving many awards, including the Queen’s Jubilee Medal. Jim and Marie loved golfing and spent many happy days on courses across Canada and the United States. In their later years, they enjoyed traveling, watching sports and Jim especially enjoyed "working the phones", as Rick says. His personal connections with his Boutilier and Williams family members, as well as many, many friends brought him profound happiness and fulfillment.
No services are planned at this time. Celebrations of life will take place at a later date in Halifax and in Fredericton.
