Born in Glace Bay on November 14th, 1935, he was a son of the late James and Margaret (Robinson) Taylor. Jim was a loving husband, proud father, devoted grandfather, and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Isabel (Drake) and children, Donna (Doug Allan), Jim, and Darrell (Ann Grantmyre) of Halifax; and Brenda (Bob Radchuck) of Toronto; sister-in-law, Anne Taylor of Glace Bay; brothers-in-law, Kelvin Drake of Whycocomagh; John Bender of Mississauga; grandchildren, Scott (Nancy), Andrew (Kathryn), Andrew James, Luke, Jillian and Ben.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Mayme and Ethel; brother, Gordon; and brothers-in-law, John Rooney and Joe Oldford.
Jim enjoyed a long career in the insurance industry, starting with Metropolitan Life in Sydney, and transferred to Halifax in 1970 with Excelsior Life. Later he ran his own general insurance agency until he retired.
Family and friends were everything to Jim. He will be remembered for his quick wit, kindness, and wisdom. Jim had many interests including travel, golfing, playing bridge, curling, hockey, and boating. From a young age he was drawn to the water and loved to be near it, on it, or in it.
He was a member of Grandview Golf & Country Club. he was a long-time member of Rockingham United Church, where he sang in the Senior Men's Choir. he was a lifetime member of the Tyrian Masonic Lodge No. 45. Throughout the progression of his disease he maintained his love for life, never complaining and always seeing the positive. We admired his strength and spirit.
The family is grateful to Dr. Ed Kinley and Jim Dier for their care and kindness. A heartfelt thank you to the VON, Palliative Care team and the many friends for their love and support.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Thursday, April 28 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Celebration of Life will be held in Rockingham United Church, 12 Flamingo Dr. on Friday, April 29 at 1:00 pm with reception to follow,.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rockingham United Church, Palliative Care Community Team, c/o NS Health Authority VG Foundation office or Cancer Care Nova Scotia.
