Our beloved father, grandfather, uncle, husband, friend , Harold Green, age 88 of Halifax passed on peacefully November 1st, 2016 at his home at Parkland Clayton Park. Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Edward (Ted) Green and Mary Ellen Shaw.
He learned from his father the importance of hard work and from his mother the value of community service which he exemplified in his life. He and his wife, Delma Claire Beckett, had a fabulous life together raising their children and enjoying every minute they could at their cottage. Their wonderful hospitality and love of a good time made it such that their home and cottage was always filled with family and friends. Harold loved to kid around and you could tell when he was up to something by the twinkle in his eye.
He told us to pick a job that you adore as he had done; he was treasurer of the Nova Scotia Power Corporation for over 20 years. His financial savvy was well known in business circles, and he also wisely advised his children in both business and personal matters. One of our favourite sayings of his was "you can do anything you set your mind to". From Dalhousie University, he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree. He was a devout Anglican and was heavily involved in Church committees at both Christ Church, Dartmouth and at the Cathedral Church of All Saints, Halifax where he had been superintendent of Sunday schools and a member of the Bishop's Men. Over the years, he was on the board of directors for many organizations.
When talking of interests or hobbies, what didn't he try in order to spend time with his children... clam-digging, horseback riding, skiing, jet-skiing, water slides, boating, golf, but no motorcycle racing. He was a true family man. He also enjoyed cards and crossword puzzles with his friends, and he has many interesting tales from his travels to Mexico, Africa, Europe and Florida. With his beautiful singing voice, the Barber Shop Quartet Choir was happy to have him as a member.
He has been an integral, loving part of his grandchildren's lives. You could not have asked for a grandfather to show more interest or involvement in his grandchildren. We are full of thanks to have had him in our lives for such a long and treasured time. He lives on in our hearts forever.
Survived by his son Mark Green (Michelle), Bedford, daughter Mary-Anne Fraser (Bob), Enfield, Falmouth, niece Lynda Noble, Hatchett Lake, who has been a daughter to him, brother-in-laws Norman Beckett, Capreol and Brian Beckett, Peterborough, grandchildren Matt Green, Luke Green, Sophie Del Fraser and Deanna May Fraser, and many extremely special nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and treasured friends which we wish we could all mention.
Predeceased by his beloved wife Delma Claire Beckett, their infant twin sons Peter and Paul, his parents Ted and Mary Ellen Green, his infant brother Joseph, his sisters Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Manning, Ethel MacCallum and Greta Koepke, his niece Gail Noble and his nephew David MacCallum.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to his wonderful family doctor, Dr. Bronwen Jones, to the entire staff at Parkland Clayton Park who became like family, to the kind and caring home care ladies from Always Home home care services, and to his cherished friends.
