Gwyn was born in New Glasgow and grew up with her parents, sisters and grandmother Nana Brown. The family moved to Halifax in 1962 and later Gwyn moved with her parents to Windsor, NS for 23 years before returning to Halifax in 1994.
Gwyn was an active member in the United Church. Over the years she volunteered at the IWK and at the QEII where she received a ten year service pin. She was artistic. She enjoyed ceramics, needlepoint and knitting. She was known for knitting many hats as well as knitted squares that went towards blankets for others. Gwyn was always ready for a giggle and a song. She lived happily for the last seven years at the Northwood Halifax Campus first in the Manor and then on the 4th floor of Centre.
Gwyn loved her family deeply and was generous with her hugs and kisses. She will be forever missed by her sister Ann (Allan) Pyesmany, her twin sister Barbara (Geoff) Lewis, her nieces and nephews Nora (Charles) Kennedy, Beth Pyesmany, Jane (James) Ashfield, David (Deidre) Lewis, and Mark (Scott Yapo) Lewis as well as 11 great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Flora Johnson.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Northwood for their efforts to provide the best possible care for Gwyn.
A Celebration of Life for Gwyn will be held at a later date at J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
In Gwyn’s memory, donations to the Northwood Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
