Dottie was born in Barney’s River, NS, May 25, 1929, the daughter of the late Donald Angus and Greta Emma (Perry) Sutherland.
Dottie was a graduate of the 1958 Graduating Class of the Halifax Children’s Hospital School of Nursing and recipient of the Governor General’s Gold Medal for highest proficiency and the Lillian MacIntosh Award for compassion and care as voted by her classmates. She embodied all of the elements of a true and caring Nurse.
Dottie was predeceased by her devoted husband, Dr. Frederick Gerard Dolan, whom she missed greatly, and into whose arms she has finally returned.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her twin brothers; Lloyd Rayburn Sutherland and Lawrence Edwin Sutherland, her brother, Donald Earl Sutherland and her sister, Jessie Mae Carter.
Dottie was a lovely tiny lady with a bright smile and a soft and caring heart. She embodied compassion and loving care and was a quiet, generous woman.
Dottie is survived by her children; James, Jane and Brenda (Darrell) Rooney and by her three cherished grandchildren; Katie, Sophie and Lily Rooney, all of Halifax as well as by her sisters, Christine Hollis, and Evelyn Adshade, both of Amherst, and many loved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531) Saturday, April 5, 2014, 2-4 pm, 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be Monday, April 7, 2014, 10 am at Saint John the Baptist Church, 26 Purcell’s Cove Road, Halifax, with Father Paul Morris officiating. Burial is to follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
