WELSH, Gordon John – 76, of Harrietsfield, passed away at home on Monday, July 25, 2011. Gordon was born in Halifax to the late John Edwin and Janet Catherine (Williams) Welsh. Gordon was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all. More than anything in life, he enjoyed his family, close to his heart was his great-granddaughter Abby who was like medicine – when Abby came bouncing into his room, he came to life! He was an avid hunter, fisherman and woodsman. He also loved boxing and was an amateur boxer in his late teens. As a young man, he worked on the ships in the great lakes. He then took up carpentry and built homes for himself, some family members and friends. He worked on the Angus L. MacDonald Bridge and was a Longshoreman (Local 269) for 37 years, retiring in 1993. Gordon is survived by his wife, Audrey Welsh, Harrietsfield; sons: Gary (Bonnie), Williamswood, Gregory (Shelly), Ketch Harbour, Mark (Angela) Welsh, Williamswood, Todd Welsh, Harrietsfield; daughter Cathy (David) McKay, Williamswood; grandchildren: Shauna Welsh, Marlo McKay, Kristy Welsh, Gordon McKay, Adam Welsh, Deanna Welsh, Ashley Welsh and great-granddaughter, Abby Welsh; sisters: Elsie (William) Baird, Aurora Ont., Linda (John) Thomas, Lr. Sackville, N.S., Joan (Tom) Tanaski, Dauphin, Manitoba, Kathy Welsh (Norman Andrews), Halifax, N.S.; brothers: Lionel (Cecelia), Halifax, N.S., Max (Shirley), Halifax, N.S., Clyde (Carolyn), Halifax, N.S., Kenneth (Beth), Bible Hill, N.S.; brothers-in-law: Hugh Graves, Prospect, N.S., George Carroll, Halifax, N.S.; and many nieces and nephews.
