CLARKE, Gordon Arnold 89, passed away peacefully at home on July 10, 2019, surrounded by members of his family. Born in Halifax, on July 01, 1930, Gordon was one of ten children of the late John Edmund Clarke and Georgia Willa (Clark) Clarke. He was employed with Maritime Telephone and Telegraph Company for 40+ years, retiring as Manager of the print shop. Gordon participated in many sports during his younger days, playing softball, hockey, badminton, golf and in his early years was a member of the Armdale Yacht Club. A highlight of his badminton career was when he represented Nova Scotia at the first ever Canada Winter Games held in Quebec in 1967. Gordon loved watching hockey. He and his wife Marion were season ticket holders with the Nova Scotia Voyagers and the Halifax Mooseheads. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins were his favorites. Gordon was very proud to be a founding member of the Centennial Arena in Halifax, retiring in 2017, as a Rink Commission Board member after 35+ years of voluntary service. Gordon was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Marion Winnifred (Bobbitt); sons, Gary (Dorothy), Robert (Debbie) and Laurie (Rita); six grandchildren, Jennifer (Kendall), Matthew (Laura), Shawn (Elizabeth), Alasdair, Gavin and Real; four great-grandchildren, Lochlan, Harlan, Charlotte and Sylvie. He is survived by brothers, Owen (Claudia), Glen (Jacquie), Elroy (Connie), Douglas (Shirley); sisters, Gladys Daley, Margaret Publicover, Beverly (Donald); sister-in-law, Sunnie Clarke; several nieces and nephews. Gordon was pre-deceased by brothers, Reginald and George, and great grandson Emmerson. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm on Tuesday, July 16; funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, at 3:00 pm, (Reverend Catherine MacDonald officiating), with reception to follow, at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
