Gladys Irene Hickey

It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of our mom at the age of 91. Mom was born April 21, 1931 and passed away peacefully at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home on October 30 with her loving family by her side. She was the daughter of the late Doris Doncaster and Urias Willigar.

Irene is survived by her husband of 60 years, Maurice Hickey and children, Rosanne, Philip, David and Katherine. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Noel Drummond (Megan) and Amy Lynn Hickey. Irene was also survived by her brothers, Elden and Alvin along with many nieces and nephews.

Mom was predeceased by her brothers, Morley, Ernest, Kinsel and Stanley; sisters, Joyce, Dorothy, Frances and Gladys as well as her special sister, Jean.

Mom graduated from the CNA Program in 1952 and later worked at the IWK Children’s Hospital and the Civic hospital. She was the proud Nanny to Noel an Amy and was known especially for baking her “Nanny’s Cookies”.

Mom was the rock of our family and the loss is profound.

Special thanks to the staff of the 2nd and 5th floor of St. Vincent’s Nursing Home for the excellent care she received.

Visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on Friday, November 4 at 10 am with Funeral Service to follow at 11. A private family burial will follow the service.
