GAUDET, Gilbert Lawson – 67, of Halifax, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 4, 2012 in Palliative Care at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital. He had briefly been a resident at the Birches Nursing Home, Musquodoboit Harbour.
Gil was born in Charlottetown, PE, son of the late Judge Gilbert A. Gaudet and Sally (Jenkins) Gaudet.
Gil was a graduate of Prince Wales College and the University of Prince Edward Island where he obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1972. Following his graduation, he and his wife Pat moved to Halifax where Gil obtained his LLB from Dalhousie Law School in 1975; and was the third generation of his family to practice law and did so for 32 years until the onset of Alzheimer’s mandated his retirement.
He was actively involved in several organizations including being past president of the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest, and a Paul Harris Fellow; past president of the Commercial Club and a member of Probus. He was affiliated with several Masonic Lodges and was past Master of Royal Standard Lodge #398, Virgin Lodge #3 and Lodge la France #138.
Gil’s family was his mainstay. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Patricia (Knowles) Gaudet and his two daughters, Amanda (Tim) Spargo, Nepean, Ont., and Sarah (Rob) MacLean, Bedford.
Surviving him are his sister, Laurel Gaudet and brother Graham (Karen) Gaudet, all of Charlottetown, PE.
Missing their dear Papa are his three beautiful grandchildren, Lauren Spargo and Will and Alex MacLean.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (902) 455-0531 on Thursday, March 8th from 6 – 8 pm.
A private family service and committal will be held in Charlottetown, PE at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of N.S. or the charity of one’s choice.
