LLOY, Gerald Murray - 89 of Halifax, passed away peacefully at the QE2 on May 30th , 2011. Born in Halifax May 31st, 1921, he was the son of the late Clifford B. Lloy and Pearle Grace (MacBain) Lloy. He attended school at LeMarchant and Halifax Co. Academy. He was employed by the Robert Simpson Co. for 36 years. Following early retirement, he went on to open IKEA, Canada.
As a charter member of Birch Cove Baptist Church, he was very active in his church. He had special interest in youth work and was a Cub Master of the 2nd Birch Cove Cub Pack for many years. He served on numerous church committees for over 50 years. Gerald also served in WW11 in the RCAF aircrew as a Navigator B in Canada.
His humour and his devotion to his family will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean; his 3 sons, Bruce (Patricia) Stony Plain AB, Alex (Rosemarie) Unionville ON, and Andrew (Kathy) Halifax, daughter, Marilyn Sydney, Halifax; 8 grandchildren, Carolyn, David, Kevin, Amanda, Will, Cheryl, Erin and Allison; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie.
A visitation will take place at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. on Wednesday, June 1st from 6-8pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, on Thursday, June 2nd at Birch Cove Baptist Church, 50 Donaldson Ave.
Internment at Lawrencetown Cemetery, Hfx. Co.
