Fred served in Europe during the Second World War with the Halifax Rifles. Following the war, Fred worked at the Unemployment Insurance Commission until his retirement at age 58. He was an active choir member of the United Memorial Church, and his distinctive voice will be sorely missed. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing, family gatherings, and a good game of crib. If Fred did not hug you, it is because he didn’t see you.
He is survived by his children, Bonita (Ken) Grandmaison, Alan (Colleen), Elaine (Steven) Fredericks, Carol (Michael) Rayner; stepchildren, Carol, Judy, Linda, Jeanne and Faye; grandchildren, Ryan, Lauren, Brent, James, Jillian, Dyana, Michelle, Kathryn, Kevin; great grandchildren, Willow, Sterling and Adriana; several step grandchildren. Fred will be sadly missed by his lady friend, Juanita Fiander. He was predeceased by his mother, Janet; father, James; wife, Eva; and brothers, James, Walter and William.
Visitation will take place in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531) on Thursday, March 6, 2014, from 7:00 – 9:00 pm. Funeral service will be on Friday, March 7 at 2:00 pm at United Memorial Church, 5375 Kaye St, Halifax, the Reverend Catherine MacDonald Officiating. Reception to follow in the church social room. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Memorial Church or the QEII foundation.
