Thompson, Frances Mae Age 86, Halifax, passed away December 21 in the Palliative Care Unit, VG site after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her son, Jim, Halifax, daughters Sharon (Larry) Thunder Bay, Joanne (Jerry) Fort McMurray, Cindy (Raymond), Halifax, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James (Joe) and grandson Bryan Thompson. Frances was well known in the Girl Guide movement in the 1950’s & 60’s, teaching in many communities as well as overseas. She also served with the Royal Canadian Ordinance Corps Militia Unit. She was a member Branch 153 Whites Lake Royal Canadian Legion for the past number of years, a member of the over 50’s dart league. She was a life member of Windsor Park Chief’s & PO. Mess and played both in Mixed and Ladies’ darts during the past 30 years at Windsor Park and Stadacona. She was an volunteer at the QEII Health Sciences Centre for 15 years as well as the IWK Telethon. Her hobbies were knitting afghans and Barbie Doll clothes for her friends. Travelling was also of keen interest to her, visiting her daughters on many occasions and often spoke of her trip to Cuba with her granddaughter, Kimberley. Special thanks to all the staff, 7A VG site for the wonderful care and comfort she received during the past six weeks. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, Halifax, Tuesday, December 29th from 2-4pm. Funeral service to take place at Fairview United Church, Reverend Heather Fraser officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or 7A, Palliative Care Unit, VG Site, QEII Health Sciences Centre.
