Florence Evelyn Cooper (Quinn), 93 of Hammonds Plains passed away peacefully to be with her Saviour on Friday, December 29, 2023 surrounded by family and the wonderful staff at Whitehills Long Term Care Centre.
Born in Halifax on July 9, 1930, the daughter of Cecil and Dora (Baker) Quinn. Florence is survived by her sisters Mary (Quinn) Regan of Enfield and Edith (Quinn) Loye of Halifax, granddaughters Willow Cooper Holmes (Stephen) and Ruth (Rudolph)(Paul Vezeau); great grandchildren Jena, Jared, Jesse, Elenore and Arthur (whom she affectionately called Ellie and Artie); daughter-in-law Marlene (Smith) Cooper; many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews who brought her much joy.
Florence was predeceased by her husband Duffus Cooper, sons Gary and Garnet Cooper, father Cecil Quinn and mother Dora (Baker) Quinn Davison.
She grew up in the North End of Halifax as well as spending much time in Canning, NS during her childhood. Along with her husband and sons, Florence resided in Kearney Lake and the West End of Halifax where she lived the past several decades on Vaughan Avenue, until moving into Whitehills Long Term Care Centre in 2021.
Florence cherished many fond memories and loved to retell stories from her past. One such story she enjoyed telling was of her outings to the Capital Theatre in the North End of Halifax with her sisters. They could see a movie, enjoy popcorn and a drink, all for thirty-five cents. She would continue her story in great detail describing how they would earn the money for their outing by scrubbing the floors for their mother.
Another fond memory of growing up for Florence was of her attending Sunday school at St. Mark’s Anglican Church as a little girl. She would go each week and even then, as a young child, she had a reverence for the Lord and loved Him so. Florence also held dear to her heart the years of Bible studies that she and her husband had at their Main Avenue home.
Florence spent her life as care giver to her husband, sons, and others. She loved to read passages from the Bible every day and she prayed for others; family, friends, and strangers alike.
A sincere thank you to the staff at Whitehills Long Term Care Centre for your loving care to Florence.
You made a home for her, cared for her, helped her enjoy life a little, and most of all - you kept a cup of tea in her hand whenever possible! Every day you were by her side. Thank you from “Flo”, “Flossie”, Florence and her family!
