Mallett, Evelyn Frances (Evie) – 97 of Purcells Cove passed away peacefully on September 2, 2012. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Jessie (Duggan) Soward. During WWII Evelyn worked at HMC Dockyard. After her children were grown she worked for 14 years as a secretary at the Saraguary Club. She loved to travel: Expo 67 with her daughters Helen and Marie, across Canada and to Europe with her husband Everett, to the USA, Dominion Republic , Cuba and over 25 trips to Bermuda, which was her favourite place. She enjoyed many afternoons trying her luck at the Casino. She is survived by her daughters Helen (Murray) Humphreys and Marie (Wayne) Dawson, both of Halifax; her sons Everett (Sandra) of Halifax and Ken (Judy) of Wellington; her sisters Dorothy Saxton, Theresa (Doug) Young and her brothers Clarence and Aurrel (Nora); grandchildren Darrell Humphreys, Sherry (Shawn) Lamarche, Barbie Pettipas, Jennifer Mallett, Robert (Paula) Dawson, Jimmy Dawson, Cathy Dawson, Carol (Ron) Dunn and Adele (Jonathan) Gobble, and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Everett, sisters May and Elizabeth (Betty) and 2 great grandchildren. A special thank you to Mariola and Kris Ganski of Kingswood Residence for their loving care of Evelyn for the past 2 years. There will be no visitation or service by Evelyn’s request. A celebration of her life will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531) on Thursday, September 6, 2012 at 3:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Sackville, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn’s memory can be made to a charity of your choice.
