Born in Main-A-Dieu, he was a son of Rueben and Hanora Campbell(nee Lahey).
He joined the army early in life and served overseas in NATO peacekeeping. He became a paratrooper with 100 jumps to his credit.
A man of immense humour and great wit, he fiercely loved dancing until his health began to fail.
Ernie is survived by his wife, Joyce (nee Mallett) Townsend, Campbell; his daughter, Linda (Claude) Mercier, Saskatchewan; his son, Danny, Ontario; brothers, Earl, Glace Bay, Herbert, Sydney; sisters, Sylvia (Richard) Thoms, Sydney, Dolores (Gerald) Pellerin, Sydney, Iris Bates, Sydney, Hilda (Ken) Barrie, Stellarton, Anna (Fred) Wilkins, NB and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Denise; son, Michael; brothers, Bill and Herb; sister, Monica and former wives, Kay and Marg.
As per his wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place under the direction of JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr. Hfx B3S 0E1(902-455-0531). Interment and Memorial service will be in Glace Bay at a later date.
