Elsie Lorna McCarthy

Elsie, Lorna (Russell) McCarthy passed away October 25, 2023 at 96 years of age. She was the daughter of Lottie and Oscar Russell. Elsie was the last surviving member of her immediate family of fourteen.

Survived by her only daughter Laura, Halifax NS, numerous nieces, nephews, as well as cousins.

Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by her husband Ronald J. McCarthy, a veteran of WWII serving with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and took part in the Liberation of Holland. Ron was also a veteran of the Korean war serving with the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. 7 sisters: Pauline Thompson, Hazel Ettinger, Frances (in infancy), Olive Wheatley-Dimock, Jean McDonald, Violet Roberge and Edna Robinson. 6 brothers Lloyd, Thomas, Otis (in infancy), Oliver, Glendon and Cedric.

Elsie was loved by all who knew her. Employment included Fairbanks Morris and Imperial Oil. She enjoyed all things related to family, and could do every craft imaginable.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Monday November 6th at Cruikshank’s funeral home, 2666 Windsor Street in Halifax, N.S. Funeral Mass at Saint Catherine’s Church, 6476 Bayer’s Road in Halifax, N.S. on Tuesday November 7th at 10am, Father Robert Nicholas officiating. Reception will follow the service. Interment in the Last Post Columbarium at Fairview Lawn Cemetery, Windsor Street, Halifax N.S.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Elsie may be made to the charity of your choice.
