Elizabeth Goodyear, 80, passed away peacefully on October 1st in the arms of her loving daughters. A sister, mom, Nana and friend, Elizabeth had a warm smile for every person she met. For those of us lucky enough to know her well - she was sunshine.
Always outgoing and independent, she would start her career path early in life. Beginning at the age of 16, she was a teacher in her hometown of Deer Lake, NF. From there she would find her true passion - nursing. In Corner Brook, she was a nursing instructor and worked in labour and delivery. Aside from a stint to ‘try something new’ when she first moved to Nova Scotia in 1981 and became a real estate agent; she would remain a nurse and come back to it throughout her life. It was in her DNA to help others. As a postpartum nurse in Halifax, she would often bring new babies to the nurses’ station with her at night so new moms (and dads) could get a few hours of rest.
‘Bette’ loved adventures with her friends and always had time for a laugh or a ‘whiz-gig’. A lover of music, you could find her at the piano at ANY party (yes, she did take requests).
She lived a very full life - full of love, full of laughter, full of connection, full of kindness. It’s not lost on us that the last meal she enjoyed was a piece of chocolate cake on her 80th birthday. She would want us all to eat dessert first. :)
Predeceased by her parents Allan (George) Goodyear and Jean Goodyear (Pearce), Elizabeth leaves behind her daughters - Patti Lynn (DJ) and Kerri Leigh (Christopher), her grandchildren - Michaela (August), Joseph (Cassidy), William and Sloane, her great grandchildren - Violette, Desmond, Skyla, Noah, Avalee and Dublin, her siblings - Ron (Maisie), Merrill (Mona) and Elaine (Bill) and extended family of cherished nieces and nephews.
