Collins, Elizabeth Jane “Betty” 83 of Lower Sackville. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend on December 16th, 2014, at home with her devoted family by her side. Born in Martins Point, Lunenburg Co., she was the daughter of the late Captain Freeman and Rosie (Joudrey) Anderson.
Mom was a very kind and giving person with a wonderful sense of humor, whether it was to lend a caring ear or to give a helping hand, she was always there for everyone, always putting people before herself. After raising her family, Mom decided to go back to school where she graduated in 1980 from DRVS with her CNA—LPN. After graduating, she worked in this field and continued to provide quality care to her patients until her retirement at the age of 72.
In her earlier years, mom volunteered with the Sackville Minor Baseball and Hockey. She later supported her husband Stan with all the tournaments for the Crown Life Pro-Am with the NSGA. She was a member of CFB Halifax Curling Club as well as a member of Oakfield Golf and Country Club. Mom loved to travel and go on her Bingo trips. She loved music and loved to play the piano. Mom was a great supporter of the NDP party and opened her home as the zone house for the elections.
She is survived by her 4 children; sons, Michael and Gregory of Sackville, Philip(Lesa)of Seminole, Florida; daughter, Valerie of Beaverbank; grandchildren, Gregory and Robert, both of Dartmouth; great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Annabelle, as well as 5 nieces and 5 great nephews. She will be sadly missed by her adoring cat, Cora. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Gordon Stanley; grandson, Shaun Michael; as well as sister, Emily, in infancy. Visitation is at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr (902-455-0531) On Friday, December 19, 2014 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service also at J.A. Snow Funeral Home on Saturday, December 20 at 1:00 pm. Burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Donation can be made to the Alzheimer Society of N.S or the SPCA
