JENKINS (Llewellyn), Elaine Margaret — Elaine passed away peacefully in Halifax on Sunday, May 9, 2010, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born October 29, 1935, and raised in a Christian family, Elaine dedicated her life to Jesus Christ at age sixteen. Her faith sustained her throughout her life and during her illness of 15 years. Elaine was devoted to her family. Her love of music (from Pavarotti to Johnny Cash) encouraged their love and appreciation of music. A fantastic cook and dedicated baker, Elaine made sure there was fresh homemade bread, chocolate chip cookies and muffins daily. Elaine's vivaciousness, enthusiasm for life, and keen sense of humour brought a sparkle to everyday family life. Elaine's joie de vive was an excellent balance to her husband Gordon's contemplative nature, and through their marriage she was a devoted and loving wife. During their life together Gordon and Elaine set an example of commitment to Christ, family, each other and married happiness to their children and grandchildren. Elaine was light, love, and laughter and all of her family will miss her immensely. Elaine's love of entertaining led to her hosting many family members, dear friends and international students over the years. Their presence at Christmases, summer picnics, and Sunday dinners ensured that her children had an appreciation of family, many cultures and foods. Elaine loved being active, eating chocolate, living in St. John's, N.L. and spending time laughing with family and friends. Elaine is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Gordon Hamilton Jenkins; her children, Anne (Chris) Sangster, Joy (Laurence) Easton, Paul (Liz Lourenco), and Melanie (Darren) Fisher; dear sister of Eric (wife Jean, daughter Beth) Llewellyn; loving grandmother of Lily and Jane Sangster and Sebastian and Imogen Fisher. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral will take place on Thursday, May 13 at 11 a.m., both in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax. Burial will follow on Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m. in Free Church of Scotland Cemetery, Prince Edward Island. In lieu of flowers, the Jenkins family would appreciate donations being made to the Missionary Service Committee of Canada. The family extends their sincere thanks to Dr. Connidis and the staff of the 8th floor of the Halifax Infirmary Hospital QEII as well as to her devoted Red Cross Workers, specifically Debbie Harlow, Marlene Harrietha and Judy Arsenault.
