Eileen Joan Gillies

GILLIES Eileen Joan (Newcombe) – 84, of Halifax, passed away on August 27, 2011 at the Victoria General Hospital. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the late Allan W. Newcombe and Marjorie M. Ellis. Eileen’s passion was animals, especially her dog Benji. She had a strong Roman Catholic faith and was a long time member of St. Lawrence Parish. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family and friends at Murphy’s Cove. Eileen lived life to the fullest. She is survived by her sister Patricia Young of Dartmouth; brothers Wayne (Gloria) Ellis of Cole Harbour, Roy Ellis of Halifax; sister-in-law Ethel Ellis of Toronto; niece Sandra Ellis of Halifax; nephews Scott Ellis of Bedford, Shawn Ellis of Montreal and Todd Ellis of Lower Sackville; grandnieces Jacqueline and Olivia Ellis of Rockingham and Brittany Ellis of Halifax. She was predeceased by her husband Donald Jerome Gillies (of Halifax) and brother Victor Ellis of Toronto. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 Tuesday at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax and funeral service will be held Wednesday August 31 at 2 p.m. in Saint Benedict Parish, Radcliffe Dr. Halifax. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the CNIB or the SPCA. A very special thank you to the nurses and doctors on 6A of the Centennial Building, V.G. Hospital.
