Born in Lakeside NS, he was the son of the late Charles and Marie Hicks. Ed learned from an early age the importance of hard work. From newspapers on the corner of Oxford and Quinpool to becoming the Vice President of Maritime Tel & Tel at the age of 35. Ed achieved so much throughout the years. Some of his professional accomplishments include receiving the Fellow of Society of Management Accounts of Canada, and President of the Maritime Province Chapters of the Financial Executives Institute. Ed spent many hours volunteering for various charities, most notably the United Way, Victoria Hall and the VG Foundation. He was also a proud lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. After a very successful career, Ed and Dorothy packed up Mayfield Avenue and headed to beloved Malignant Cove where they enjoyed the next 35 years. The years at the cove were some of the best of his life, welcoming their seven grandchildren and enjoying time with friends and family. Pizza, lobster, horseshoes.... Whatever title they gave the party the doors were always open to join the good times. Ed became quite an accomplished woodworker and was known to take on many projects when Dorothy told him to. An amateur wine maker (Ed’s Red… enough said) and semi professional chef (Papa’s Sketti), were all things we will miss and remember with love. The last five years were spent back in Halifax on Friesian Court where many friends were made. What Ed was most proud of was his family.
He is survived by Dorothy, his loving Wife of 61 years, Son Colin and Daughter in Law Kate, of Port Williams, Daughters Jacqui of Hammonds Plains and Cathy of Bedford, his adored grandchildren Daniel, Jonathan, Jordan, Ethan, Ella, Ryan, and Caroline. Ed is also survived by Sisters Margaret McTiernan, Kathy (Hans) Moller and Brother John (Bette)Hicks and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Sister Anita Neatt, Brother in Law Ronnie Neatt, Sister Donna, and Brother in Law Mick McTiernan.
A reception will be held on Monday January 22, 2024 from 1:00-3:00pm with remarks at 2:00pm at J A Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax.
