Powell, Edith Beverly age 76 of Halifax passed away on November 1, 2022 at the QE II Health Science Center. Born in St. Elizabeths, Jamaica, one of eight children to the late Aaron Emiroth Simpson and Iris Adora Nembhard.
Bev volunteered at the Salvation Army and was also involved with her church singing in the choir and the Sister-hood. She was an accomplished botanist who loved plants and flowers and could grow anything out of nothing, she was a lover of wild animals and shows.
Bev should be remembered as the “firecracker” she was, always full of positive energy. She loved to sing and dance and wanted everyone to do the same. In her presence, you were always greeted with a smile and always something delicious to eat. Nurturing, caring and loving, you will always be missed.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, Leslie Powell; daughters, Dawnifer Gaudet, Sheffin Holness, Kimberly Powell and step-daughter, Mellissa Muschette; sons, Christopher A. Powell, J. Leslie Powell (Tamara) and step-son, Anthony Leslie McBean Powell; sister, Avis Howell; brother, Odie Simpson; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents she was also predeceased by 4 brothers, 1 sister and step-son, Gary Powell.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 2, 2022 from 4-8pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax where funeral service will also take place on Saturday, December 3 at 1pm with Rev. Rhonda Britton officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army or New Horizons Baptist Church.
Edith Beverly “Bev” Powell will always be remembered for the kind, loving and beautiful soul she was and also missed because of those same qualities. You are a blessing to all who knew you.
